When it comes to telling powerful, uniquely Aotearoa stories — this one stomped through us (in all the right ways).
Vicki Leopold took the helm as Director and Co-Producer on the NZOC’s Winter Olympics and Glasgow Commonwealth Games campaign, "The Fern Is All Of Us", a cinematic expression of unity, whakapapa and pride.
The campaign centred around the tākahi - the grounding stomp in haka - performed as one by current athletes, legacy legends, and kaihaka from Hoani Waititi Marae. It wasn’t just haka. It was a shared cultural moment - powerful, emotional, and deeply rooted in identity.
At its core was “Pōtangatanga”, the haka written and gifted to the New Zealand Olympic team by Tā Derek Lardelli - a taonga of movement, meaning and mana. To perform it together was to stand together — past, present, and future.
Shot by DOP Stephen Langdon, who led the visuals across both photography and film, the visual storytelling was raw, rhythmic, and unforgettable. Every frame carried weight. Every stomp had purpose.
Creative direction, concept development and production were brought together by PistolShrimp & Partners, working closely with NZOC and cultural leaders to ensure authenticity, aroha, and impact at every step.
Because the fern isn’t just a symbol.
The fern is all of us.
